A true family business
In 1999, Argentine Guillermo Mellicovsky started a juice bar on this very spot. In 2003 he opened Melly's Cookiebar, one of the first espresso bars in Amsterdam, pairing Italian-roasted coffee with Argentine alfajores, dulce de leche and yerba mate. To get the recipes right he turned to his sister Rita, who had long sold her home-made pastries back in Argentina.
When his nephew Daniel took over in 2015, Rita came to Amsterdam for a few weeks to teach him every recipe by hand. Two generations on, we still bake cookies, alfajores and cakes by hand, every day in the heart of Amsterdam.
