Ask an Argentine to name an alfajor brand and they will say Havanna. It started in 1948 as a cafe in Mar del Plata, the seaside city where families spend their summers, and its alfajores became the souvenir everyone carried home. Today you find the orange Havanna box in every airport in the country.
Why it became a classic
Havanna built its name on one thing above all: a thick, slow-cooked dulce de leche. The cookies are generous, the chocolate coating snaps, and the filling tastes of real milk caramel rather than sugar. For a lot of people abroad, that flavour is the taste of home.
